Spiritual and Cultural Aspects of Palliative Care and The Interdisciplinary Team Primary Author: Yale School of Medicine Case 2 of the Yale Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Educational Program is an interactive computer-based clinical case of a woman with metastatic breast cancer. The objectives are for students to: - Understand the basic precepts and goals of Palliative Care. - Recognize common misconceptions about opioids (pain medication). - Identify the importance of addressing the spiritual and cultural needs of a patient with terminal illness and understand how to get these needs met. - Understand the clinical features of imminent death and how to help the patient and family during this time. - Recognize the contributions of all health care professionals and understand the importance of the interdisciplinary team in the care of the patient with terminal illness. Students are asked to reflect on aspects of the case. Note: The module is accessible to anyone, but you will need to respond to five brief demographic questions.
